L is in the two digits now

Wow. I cannot believe it is the end of February!

Back in December, we celebrated our wonderful kiddo's birthday. For the second time in a row, he decided to spend his birthday funds on something big- this year, it was a fancy contraption that allows him to play video games and experience them as if he were spatially immersed in the world of the game. Virtual reality, they call it, and it is mind blowing to me. He set up the VR system himself, and though he was able to complete all the steps correctly, it was no easy feat- I suspect most children would have needed their parents to do it for them! I'm glad we got it early, so we had time to iron things out.

Since we didn't hold a big party like we used to, we decided to party it up ourselves. There's this place in town called Cinergy, and it is basically a big arcade... except it also has a bowling alley, a movie theater, wall climbing, laser tag, concessions, a bar... everything under the sun except in one room. After the morning tradition of cake and streamers, we all headed there to celebrate together. Since he had been wanting to do it for a while, L and V tried out a mystery room for the first time. Without much success, apparently :') Quijote and I had a mini date at the bar while we waited. We bought ourselves a beer and a snack and just talked and stared at the entrance to the mystery room until they came out to announce it had been all kinds of silly and fun, and time had run out before they could solve the mystery. As they tell it, they -mostly Vee- had obsessed over one of the puzzles in the room, but it had turned out to be unimportant. Once they solved it, it turned out to be a dead end? Something like that. We had a laugh and we would have taken a picture, but it was almost time for the movie to start. So, we all got some popcorn and drinks and headed to the movie theater to watch The Boy and the Haron by Studio Ghibli. It was trippy, and I was so confused by it, but the kids really liked it.

Here is Quijote's BDAY post for him 💖

A few days later, we had a visit from Nana and Grandpa! A second round of cake was had- El's favorite, I do believe!

Boo and Daisy cuddling with him, like they know next to him is a good spot jaja

A long time later, I shot the traditional interview asking El all the questions we usually ask for the birthday interviews, and it is a longer video than these interviews ever have been. I think it is so cool that we get to see how the answers change and vary according to what they have been up to, and how their reactions also evolve with the passing of time. This year there was shenanigans all around (the silliness was very much enjoyed by both siblings, haha!) and everything was so silly and fun. One moment he was speaking of how a certain color has the perfect vibrancy, and the next he is holding a dinosaur shaped stool over his head. HAHA. Except he took that last question about love quite seriously and considered his answer with much more depth than before-- what exactly am I asking for? What kind of love am I referring to? Then he expanded on what he has observed might be the process of falling in love. It felt less like he was answering the question, and more like he was processing or thinking about the subject, out loud--- about all the "multiple theories" and ways in which one can experience or even dissect the process of loving someone. Maybe it can be explained "scientifically" or "personally" I especially liked that in his opinion, it all starts with liking someone's personality :) And when we generically say "love you!" in videos, who are we talking to, exactly? WHO exactly is watching? Maybe we love them. Maybe we don't. Let's just make a list of who "you" might be that we expect to watch this and whom we love. So cool, kid. You are so cool. These are indeed important questions.

Well, without further ado- here is the video.

No, actually, a bit more ado--

I would like to clarify that Dad and I are paying for the Xbox games, but it was Tio Misael who bought the console, and it was an awesome Christmas gift. It has been getting tons of use by all. Elias has also been using $ gifts from friends and family on both sides to buy accessories and separate games. Thank you abuelitos, grandparents, aunts and uncles, tios y tias, friends... thank you all so much for loving on him and letting him choose how to enjoy your gifts  <3 This is probably a bit of a sacrifice for the gifter, since they don't get to see the joy they create, but it is very much there and greatly appreciated. At this age, getting to "spend" on what he wants has been fun but also a good exercise in personal economics- not to mention that he gets to pick exactly what he wants. He also got lots of equally awesome gifts, including Minecraft themed pajamas, lights, books, and outfits, plus the pocketknife he had been wanting so badly and which he is training to eventually get to use. The gifts were all obviously very carefully selected, and we really appreciate them! They are all getting tons of use, except for the pocketknife, which will get tons of use when we start camping in the Spring.

Also, future El, if you see this, I do apologize if in my excitement to ask you what you wanted to say I actually ended up interrupting your flow a bit. I was just so happy you said you had something in mind you wanted to share.

Now for reals :p here it is:
