Mr E's Birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LITTLE MAN!!

My winter baby boy ;)

It was so much fun making his birthday this year!! We made it together the day before. They both loved helping out.

This morning after their breakfast I took it out of the fridge and sprinkled the top with cocoa and sugar and added the blueberries -his favorite- instead of the original recipe's raspberries  and blackberries.

he was excited about it!!

"for meeee?"

nom nom nom

After the cake, it was time for some family fun- gifts, bath time, pictures, macdonalds, nap, then the mall for more pictures, cookies, shopping, and more playing at the mall's playground. Good times, good times :)

THANK YOU UNCLE, AUNT, AND GRANDPARENTS!!

I got in on the action too :P

first attempt at a family picture :P

second attempt

She really wanted to say hi to Santa :P

I think this is the best we are getting this year, folks!

they really liked the squirrel

I love you, my sweet, beautiful little man.

Christmas 2015: Reverse Advent Calendar Part II

this post will be updated daily for the next few days

Day 8:
We went to a friend's home for a play date this morning. We had a dance party in the living room and ate blueberry muffins and milk. We came home to play with the extra Christmas light strands, which reminded me of last Christmas' picture by the tree. Maybe we should repeat this year?
I also got some organizing done! You may think this is not Advent-ish but this is me nesting and making preparations for the rest of the season hehe!

And I am going crazy with the realization that all of this:

Fits here:

Day 9:
Today was my sister SABdD's birthday! We took showers just so we could sing a happy birthday song to her and send her a video. Then we made a simple but time consuming (especially if two kiddoes are "helping" you) cake for Mr E's birthday tomorrow. I put a little piece of the sugar bag in our envelope, to remind myself that life is sweet and we have lots to be grateful for. We followed this recipe:
http://www.milorambles.com/2015/01/02/celebration-chocolate-mousse-cake-mary-berry-recipe/
This is how the Queen of cakes did it!

Day 10
Birthday boy had fun :) And we took our first winter family pic. Click here for the birthday post :)

Day 11
This week we shot a video of ourselves singing happy birthday to my sister, and then we prepared for Mr E's birthday- and celebrated him, of course. So Miss E has been saying that Christmas is "a lot of birthdays." Since Miss E has been a little confused about whose birthday Christmas is all about, I thought I'd try to approach the Christmas story from a different angle: puppets.
It started out as a "let's make our own nativity scene" attempt, but I soon realized Miss E wanted to give them all tutus and paint them pink. I figured shadow puppets were a way to get straight to the story. I cut the super simple figurines out of a kettle corn box in the shape of peg dolls and we took them to our living room lamp to use as puppets. We went through the story a half dozen times! Hopefully that will help Miss E get her story straight.

First I showed her a much fancier version of the nativity shadow show, here.

Then we made our puppets and started playing :)

We also have this book on her bedside table :)
They both love going through the animals that saw the story happen and the noises they make!

 Day 12
Miss E requested that we play with puppets again :)! We made princesses! Blue winter princesses with limbs that move using a string (still perfecting our puppeteer skills, though, I have to admit!) Q and I started playing and singing Christmas carols with them at night, but I am not allowed to post my cute videos of him with his guitar.

All the websites I found with instructions say to use special pins for the joints, but we used clipped craft pipe cleaners because we had them in hand :) I bet even a bread tie would do the trick.
I printed out some Christmas puppets but I reserved them for our trip to Juarez. We can do a craft with the primos maybe!

Day 13
Snow day! We were stuck at home all morning but it was warmer in the afternoon so we took the kids out for like 5 seconds. hahaha!

Day 14
We made orange cookies!! They were okay, but it was fun to try something new.

Day 15
We went shopping for card making supplies and gifts. Still did not finish getting all we needed, though! Serious prep day for travel and other Xmas related stuff. We talked to kids about giving gifts to other people in celebration of God giving us his Son. Miss E liked the idea. Mr E does not care, really, as long as he gets to walk around the store isles and say hi to everyone.

Miss E in her Sofia the I pajamas :)

Day 16
I worked on Christmas cards and Miss E made a mermaid. She brought out all the materials from the shelf and set up her work station and got to work! It was so very grown up of her, I thought. And the mermaid is so detailed! I mean, that nose has nostrils! She also painted the ocean and "the mermaid's fish friend" which apparently has hair? Or maybe it is red like her hair? Something like that.

We also wrapped some presents!! Yaaay!

Day 17
Finally figured out how to change the ink on our printer! yaay! I addressed the cards during nap time yesterday afternoon. Today we got the Christmas cards mailed!! If you are a Fox, you should know that you are getting two. The first one was made by the kids (and my letter to Marcella) and Miss E and I sent it a few days ago but it came back for lack of postage, so we sent it with the picture card -and the appropriate postage- today.

It's our first official Christmas card ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have been doing laundry, cleaning the car.. doing lots of work so that we can be ready for tomorrow's trip to Laredo to visit my grandmother (and then we are off to Juarez for the annual Christmas visit.) Since we will be out of town for Xmas, we let the kids open their gift from Q and I. Maybe we should have let them open the gifts from their aunts and uncles on Q's side! But they played nonstop with the tree house and the wooden train set, and Q and I were running around like headless chickens so it escaped my mind that there was a part 2 to this pseudo Xmas morning thing. It was a good idea, I hope. We won't let them take presents with us to Juarez (too many small parts) so I wanted them to have a day to enjoy them before we left- and that they did! It makes me happy. Mission accomplished. Partly. I think they'll open more presents tomorrow before we leave ;)

I'll be absent again for a few days as we go back on the road tomorrow. May you have a wonderful Holiday Season. Merry Christmas to you and yours!!! Much much love from our little family on the go.

Christmas 2015- Reverse Advent Calendar

Since we made our first advent calendar (totally copying my friends everywhere! lol!) we have been trying to do something special everyday to mark the passing of each advent day. I love the anticipation it is building :)!! I suppose it is a reverse advent calendar because instead of having pre-planned activities or small gifts that kids discover each day by opening a box or flap or something of the sort, we taped envelopes to the wall and decorated them and have been putting something in them every day. Depending on what we have been doing, we've so far put little reminders of our Advent fun and lessons, such as a paper Xmas tree or an angel, and since the day's activities are not planned ahead of time it isn't too horrible if something doesn't happen (no expectations here, just enjoying what we can get away with enjoying! LOL).
SO.. all of that to introduce my day by day list of what we are doing. I'll be updating this list. Today was day 7 of course so I'm a little late here, but ah well! that's the spirit of this calendar, after all!

Day 1 of Advent Season: we made paper snowflakes. Miss E did not love the cutting as much as she did gluing them to the window. Then she requested "snow balls" so we made some of those too. Mr E was not interested.

Day 2
We made the calendar and decorated Xmas trees. Mr E liked this one because the markers came out. Miss E liked gluing. Her tree has SO MUCH stuff glued on!

Day 3

Day 4
We made an attempt at taking the kids out to look at Xmas lights. But neither child had napped that day and the moment we put them in the car they both fell asleep. LOL! So Daddy and I went to Starbucks and then enjoyed the lights in the comfort of our unusually quiet car. Mr E did wake up later on and got to see a few houses. The kids were both awake by the time we got home, so we showed Miss E a youtube video of a xmas light show and then called it a night :D

Added to the Starbucks and Q's bread was the also home made delicious jam our friends gave us! so delicious!

Day 5
We went to the mall so I could get my haircut. Yes I cut my hair!! I LOVE it too!!

Then we came home. Napped in the car. Ate a quick dinner and then we walked downtown for the Parade of Lights. It was beautiful, and this year we were dressed warmly enough. And we got hot chocolate for $1. And the kids really enjoyed the parade. So much fun. SO MUCH FUN!

Day 6
Dia del Sen~or. Fuimos a la iglesia. Todo el mundo me dijo algo lindo de mi cabello y las hermanas de la guarderia sabian k es el cumple de Mr E en unos dias, y lo felicitaron. Los hermanos de la iglesia son un amor. Me da pena k faltamos tanto! Me pidio k yo tambien me pusiera pajamas asi k me puse mi bata roja--- y claro--- ella tambien quiso bata. Le di una verde k compre en Espan~a hace an~os! Andaba muy contenta en mi bata hasta que decidi k se veia muy tierna y k keria foto.

Que seria!

I've been telling Miss E all about angels- we have an angel lantern that my mom gave us a few years back and every time we pass by it I tell her about the angel that told Mary that she was going to have a baby, or the angels that sang to the shepherds. I don't feel like she is ever paying attention but I guess maybe something sticks because she was very excited about making "angels that sing" and she was telling me something about Mary that I didn't understand (still happens here and there) and she was very nervous at one point that her angel might not get wings ("she needs her birds! angels fly!"). We followed the directions on facebook post that my mom shared with me

and we made these:

we used leftover "pearls" from a necklace that broke a while back, and the beads were small, so we made tiny angels. that's how I realized what I should have known through common sense: that smaller parts are more difficult for toddlers to work with. I am so proud that she persevered.

she really wanted to make one with a complete face :)

Day 7
I did a little laundry and cooked a yummy dinner (if I may say so myself). Then it was time for ginger bread house fun!!

progress on the house

Miss E wanted a ginger doll

"can i eat it? E is eating it..."

I guess he kind of had the right idea: watch tv and eat while Daddy does all the work. LoL

Q decided his theme was "The Orient Express" and this is the body. LoL. Que festivo el :P

the finished train

the finished house

okay Mr E did help a little bit

LoL! see those guilty faces!?!?

they totally ate half of it before it was even done :P

"I know you want some!!"
Okay maybe I'll need to break this up into a few posts :3
