Thanks to the inlaws for visiting and for babysitting! It was pretty great to have them in town. We mostly stayed home with them, had dinner, played games and tried our hand at a very difficult puzzle (the puzzle won.) But we also went to the park and to the children's museum.
Quijote also got his vaccine! I hope to get mine next Monday, now that they've finally opened it to "all adults" here in TX.
This is the new outdoor area of the Children's Discovery Center.
They also had a great exhibit on simple machines, which was great since Miss E is earning her Mechanical Engineering badge, and both kiddoes learned Newton's laws of motion at the beginning of the school year.
Yummy Indian food!
Nana and Grandpa also brought a craft they found at a museum.
It was originally a doll making craft, but Mr E decided to make a book with the pretty colored paper.
Miss E crafted a Native American outfit for her paper doll, as per the instructions.
She also got to see Nana's Girl Scout sash and badges! I thought that was kind of cool.
We also played a game of Scrabble! We decided to accept all the languages that all the players know, so we ended up with words in English, Spanish, French, and Latin.
We also used all our tiles!! Though Miss E and I did cheat by using her last tile and my last two tiles to form the very last word. We didn't keep score, but I thought our getting rid of ALL the tiles was an accomplishment.
Jaja
I also started gardening- or rather getting ready for gardening. Moved my worms to a temporary bin (a larger bin in hopes of being able to use it later in the Summer) and mixed the worm castings that were ready with some soil, so I could do some "winter sowing," which is what people are calling this method of using gallon jugs as mini green houses in order to jump start the season without the use of growing lights or a larger true green house. I would eventually love to have a green house, but the space is currently being used by the kid's play house.
We've also been working on our backyard, and Quijote put together our new little set of outdoor table and chairs. That box in the corner (in the picture above) is the umbrella that goes with the set, but we won't be able to enjoy it just yet because it got cold again and because we are waiting on a new leg, since one of them had a small part snap during construction. I know, this is bad news, as it probably means the whole thing won't be as durable as our cast iron bench has been so far-- but I ordered it too early, since I was apparently overly confident that cast iron would definitely be a safe bet, and now we're too late to return it.
In other news, we've recently also acquired some blackberries and some asparagus crowns (remember how I said we'd focus on expanding our permaculture this year?) and now that it got snowy again, I am wondering if I should sit on them or try to plant them... hmm....
And that's basically what's been going on over here! Hope everyone is staying warm. Can't wait till the weather warms up and *stays* warm!
