Mother's Day Trips

We are currently visiting family. Will update soon!

May 21st, 2021

Hello!! We are back! The kids and I visited my family in Mexico for Mother's Day, then headed back home to rest a day before all of us- hubs, dogs, and all- went back on the road to see my in-laws.

A note on Covid...

We decided long ago that the show must go on (sorta decided, but still kept our distance quite a bit.) Now that we have the safety net of vaccination, we are trying to walk that scary high wire and taking bolder steps towards the other side. Whoever thought that integrating back into the world would be a thing- an adventure, even. Yet here we are. I can only hope that we are right in taking some risks for the sake of normality for the children and the society of our loved ones.  We are still taking precautions, and trying to stick to outdoor public spaces -with places like malls and restaurants being a special treat- wearing masks, washing hands, and interacting mostly with people we know to be healthy and also vaccinated. Even these precautions will be impossible to monitor and insure when the children start school in the fall -which makes me so nervous! But we are trying our best to extend the use of healthy practices as much as possible.

Babies, if you are older and reading this years later, please know we took your safety and your health -both physical and mental- very seriously. We take calculated risks, under conditions we deem acceptable, and we enjoy the adventure and wonder of it all. While we should not be governed by fear, we also do not willingly jump into dangerous situations if we can help it.

Mexico

With my Abuelita (and most of the older adults in the Cruz family) vaccinated, we could finally visit her for the first time in a year! We hadn't been to Mexico in a very long time, in fact. I think the Christmas before last! What a crazy world this is, where people stay away from family out of love. So when Mom told me they were planning a small get together for Mother's Day, I decided I'd convince Quijote to let me make the trip. I knew it was his very last week of school and it would be too crazy for him to join us, but the kids and I could make the trip and see family and have a mini vacation! And that's what we did. We had a grand old time with my parents, and then went to the family party on our very last day there.

My niece and nephew wanted to make cookies! We made chocolate chip cookies :D

Also visited my Abuelito.

They do look like aliens...

The day before the party we bought flowers to make little corsages for all the moms, and ended up with a flower arrangement or two for my mom. It was perfect. haha! We also had a little celebration with just my mom, my abuelita, and I. We had dinner together- Dad made cabrito. Yum!

And finally, the party (and the after-party)
