The original version had velcro, but I hate how it always get stuck to things in the wash, so I just made the ties longer so I could hopefully make a bow- they aren't long enough for that, once you add the cobija and the pillow to the mix. Womp wop. But it ties together pretty nicely :)
The cobija was made by a dear friend of our family. It's a thing in the States~ I think they call it quilting?~ and ladies make these for their family and friends and these beautiful things become heirlooms. I have inherited one from my inlaws that is super old and was made by a special woman in the family history. Isn't that beautiful? I can't wait till the kids are older so I can put it out in a guest room or somewhere special like that. Well, this owl one was made by someone dear to my mom and dad and myself, and she made it especially for Miss E's nursery when she was a newborn :)
The tutorial I followed uses bright new fabrics of course, but I had tons of baby girl
blankets that I wanted to use for something, so I used them for this. The lady from Sew Like My Mom also gave her nap mat a cute applique, which has absolutely inspired me to get better at using my machine so I can learn to do this very detailed technique :)
Well, my mat isn't a pretty as hers, but it is better than the plain, uncovered (or covered by two pillowcases! lol) plastic mat she was using. haha!
