Q and I have decided to be part of the festivities :)
A brief little rant before I blog about our Halloween activities~
My parents do not like the holiday, and I never did dress up as a kid (or as a teen/young adult, out of respect for my parents) but as an adult I have grown fond of the traditions around celebrating community (sharing meals, giving out candy, coming together during special events, etc). I do not think that Christianity is about what we do
not do, but it is instead a way of life grounded in freedom, brought about by our faith in Jesus. I could get into a lengthy discussion about doctrine or the history of the many holidays that we Christians have invented/inherited... but this is in the end a very simple matter to me. This is one of those strangely controversial issues that each person should discern. I personally did not celebrate it in any way for a long time because I believe that while one is under one's parents' roof, one is to follow their rules. I won't say I did not complain (haha!) but I followed the rules. On the other hand, as someone once told me, there is Halloween, and then there is Halloween. The tradition is what you make of it -and so is any other celebration. You won't see me dressed as Death or watching a horror movie (sorry, hate those) because that's just not me. But anyway. The thing is that I want my children to be and feel like they are a part of their community, that they are allowed to do and be. That it is not about the NOTs but about the DOs. ...and so on and so forth. Happy Halloween!
You will forgive my unwillingness to discuss any further in the comments (I am glad to hear your thoughts, but I will not respond). You see, I just want to share this, not get into one of those lengthy and useless arguments I tend to get into, and the best way to do that is to not discuss at all~ to share and listen and do no more.
WoW! We celebrated for a whole week! Little Owl is older now and able to participate in more and more big kid activities. She dressed as a ballerina doll, and Baby E used the "Dog Party" costume we got a year (or two?) ago. We went to the Library's Story time (as you can see in my previous post) for some book readings, music and crafts. They gave the kids a very cool little pumpkin to decorate! And we went to the Children's Museum's event.
Here are some pictures of the Children's Museum (they call it the Discovery Center) in reverse chronological order:

| We got lucky! Two seconds later there were 30 kids in there and a picture would have been impossible to take. |

| She quickly identified it as a dog, not a robot! LoL! I guess it's barking, right? |
And this is us trick-or-treating tonight :) LO was GREAT with her manners, and learned to knock politely and always without exception said thank you. So proud of her.
